GKN Automotive, a global frontrunner in drive systems, has successfully wrapped up the construction of its advanced manufacturing hub in Felsőzsolca, situated close to Miskolc in northeastern Hungary. This strategic move reinforces GKN Automotive's commitment to remaining accessible to its OEM clientele in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and sustaining its top-tier market status.
Hungary's automotive sector has experienced significant growth, annually churning out 420,000 vehicles and 1.9 million engines. With many of GKN Automotive's established and prospective OEM partners nestled in this region, this new facility promises to offer them the advantage of having a premier-tier distribution partner right at their doorstep.
Scheduled to commence operations in October 2023, the site will majorly focus on sideshafts production. GKN Automotive anticipates the facility to roll out roughly 230,000 sideshafts for its clients from October to December 2023, with prospects for further capacity expansion. By ramping up production for electric vehicle components, GKN Automotive remains at the forefront of championing electrification in the automotive sector.
Spanning around 29,000 square meters, the facility encompasses a production and logistics hall, a dedicated office space, and a state-of-the-art engineering center equipped with cutting-edge testing amenities. Sustainable design principles and optimized flow production methodologies have been at the heart of its construction.
This Hungarian plant is envisioned to augment GKN Automotive's existing footprint in the CEE region, encompassing facilities in places like Oleśnica in Poland and Zreče in Slovenia. Over time, these centers, in tandem with GKN Automotive's global sites, are poised to cater to the surging demand for eDrive systems and components.
Markus Bannert, GKN Automotive's CEO, expressed his enthusiasm: "We are thrilled to unveil our state-of-the-art facility in Hungary, a pivotal location for many of our partners. With production kickstarting in October, this facility will play a central role in delivering our sought-after sideshafts, experiencing a surge in demand."
The selection of Felsőzsolca Industrial Zone as the site followed an exhaustive business partner search and evaluation process, factoring in its prime location conducive to international trade and transport. Additionally, the proximity to Miskolc, boasting the second-largest technical university in Hungary, the University of Miskolc, ensures a steady influx of adept technicians and professionals, further fueling growth and innovation in the sector.
