Bauhaus has emerged as the top player in Germany's DIY retail sector, surpassing Obi to become the new leader. Data from Dähne Verlag reveals that Bauhaus's revenue in Germany reached approximately EUR 4.31 billion in 2023, edging out Obi, which reported sales of about EUR 4.19 billion within the same timeframe.
Despite taking the lead, both Bauhaus and Obi, similar to the majority of German DIY retailers, experienced a drop in sales compared to 2022. Bauhaus saw a decrease of roughly 2.0%, while Obi faced a more significant reduction of 4.8%. Among the eight leading DIY store chains in Germany, only Globus achieved an increase, marking a 1.6% rise in sales. The total revenue for these top eight retailers in the German market declined by 2.8%, totaling EUR 22.105 billion. Hornbach ranked as the second most resilient brand, with a sales contraction of only 1.0% from the previous year. It's important to note that these statistics are based on non-like-for-like sales figures.
