In recent times, Tajikistan has been experiencing good growth within the timber industry and this has now received support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in the shape of a €900,000 loan. Based in Khujand, it will be a timber processing company by the name of Fortuna who receives the loan so they can increase their capacity. As demand continues to increase, Fortuna will be able to use the investment to meet expectations.
Founded back in the mid-1990s, Fortuna started by working within the local markets. Over time, demand has increased and, in 2000, they opened a domestic wood processing facility. After this, they could provide doors, window frames, and more to the market. However, the machinery and other equipment has now become outdated so have been needing investment for some time. With the market still growing, this will be the perfect time for Fortuna to modernise whilst going through a process of expansion.
