The amount of forestry products exported by Latvia has increased yet again in the first three quarters of 2015, this time by over 3%. According to the data made available by the Forest Department of the Latvian Agriculture Ministry, Latvian forestry exports reached over €1.5 billion, an increase of nearly €50 million from the same figure a year previous. Exports of timber were a big contributor to this as they increased by 1.6% in the first nine months from the year before.
The UK currently stands as the biggest market for Latvia, contributing nearly 20% of the final figure, worth €280 million. Germany and Sweden follow closely behind with 10% (€157 million) and 9% (€134 million) respectively of Latvia’s total exports in forestry products.
As a result, Latvia’s forestry imports also increased by over 6% to €531 million over the first nine months of 2015. Lithuania remains as their biggest supplier with 17% attributed to this final figure. Estonia and Poland rounded off the top three with around 12% each.
With three months still left to run, the final year figures are expected to surpass the numbers from 2014 which saw exports at €2.015 billion and imports at €688 million.
