Thanks to recently released figures, we now know that Poland imported around €42 million worth of woodworking tools, devices and machine in 2015 - an 11% increase from 2014. Market analyst, Tomasz Wiktorski, says that the market is still growing and “This year, the furniture production value will reach 42.5 billion PLN (€10 billion). Comparing to the value of 2014, which was 38.4 billion PLN (€9.1 billion), we can notice a significant increase.”
Currently, Poland has around 5% of the market share in terms of furniture exports which is the fourth highest in the world. With more and more factories opening every single year, these all require production lines with high-quality equipment. According to reports, Wening (German consortium) and Homag are two of the most popular options but there is also an increase to be seen from Asian companies. In recent years, both Taiwan and Japan have increased their output of high-quality woodworking machinery.
Although there are producers of machinery in Poland, such as Rema and Jaroma, there aren't many that offer complex technologies and many tend to stick to milling machines and saws. With just under €100 million and a 45% market share, Germany is the largest technology exporter to Poland in the timber industry. After this, Italy stands with 28% whilst Austria holds 11% of the market.
Over time, many wood machine producers in Poland have seen the benefit of this because some are looking to foreign markets to create their own products. Owner of Trak-Met, Zbigniew Skillandat, has said “We are exporting these goods to Germany, Austria, Norway, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Estonia and other European countries in which we have our offices.”
