As a subsidiary of Sistema PJSFC, the Segezha Group is now one of the leading forestry groups in Russia and they boast extensive logging and wood processing equipment. Just recently, their progression and hard work was rewarded after they signed an agreement for a brand new birch plywood facility in the Kostroma region.
Signed alongside the government, the outline is said to show the intentions of the company but also includes cross liabilities and state support. According to early estimates, the project will cost around RUB 9 billion including forest management. For the community, this is fantastic news since it will create over 500 new jobs and lead to a production capacity of around 100,000 cubic metres.
Although a site hasn't been chosen within the Kostroma region just yet, the planned ‘roadmap’ suggests choosing a location based on numerous factors including staff, water discharge, water supply, energy supply, and logistics. After making the decision in the third quarter of 2017, construction is expected in late 2018 and the facility should finally open its doors in 2020.
