JLR to Boost Electric Vehicle Production in Slovakia by 2030
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) marked the fifth anniversary of its Nitra plant in Slovakia with a significant announcement: the facility will be developed to manufacture electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030. Currently, the Nitra plant is known for producing the Discovery and Defender models. However, JLR's latest plans include the production of its next-generation electric vehicles at this Slovakian site.
Specific details about which electric models or platforms will be produced at the Nitra plant, as well as information about battery supply, are yet to be finalized, with the company stating that these aspects of the plan are still in the process of being determined.
Barbara Bergmeier, Executive Director of Industrial Operations, commented on the development, expressing it as a testament to the commitment and performance of the 4,800 associates at the plant. She emphasized the strategic significance of the Nitra facility within JLR's industrial system.
Bergmeier highlighted that €1.3 billion has been invested in the Nitra plant, noting its advanced digitization, automation, and use of cutting-edge technology. To date, the plant has produced 365,000 units of the Discovery and Defender models.
Currently, to meet the growing demand, the Nitra plant operates three shifts, producing approximately 3,000 units of the popular Discovery and Defender models each week. This expansion into EV production marks a significant step in JLR's evolution and commitment to electric mobility.
