In order to convert a heat and power plant belonging to TAMEH Polska sp. z.o.o., the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has announced that they will be providing a €75 million loan. Located in Krakow’s ArcelorMittal steel plant, the plant will be converted to a gas-fired unit.
With a change from coal to gas, greenhouse gases are expected to reduce significantly and could reach 200,000 tonnes of CO2 less per year. If this target is reached, the plant will then be in compliance with the environmental requirement put into place by the European Union (EU). In 2018, Poland will be introducing new measurements thanks to the Industrial Emissions Directive and this loan will help TAMEH to adhere to the necessary guidelines. Currently, Krakow is vital to the Polish economy as the second largest city.
As a joint venture between the Polish energy utility company, Tauron, and the world’s leading integrated steel company, ArcelorMittal Group, TAMEH Polska will receive the funds directly from the EBRD.
