Bosnia and Herzegovina received a boost this week after hearing that the EU/EBRD SME Competitiveness Support Facility would be providing financing to many SMEs so that they can compete within the EU market. Using three local partner banks, around €20 million will be made available and will be supplemented by EU grants in order to provide financial incentives and cover consultancy costs.
Omorika, a PET packaging producer, is just one SME that is set to benefit from this news after receiving a small loan as well as support in order to improve health and safety, product quality, and environmental protection. As a result, the company is now in line with EU standards. Best known as ‘clear plastic’, Omorika preforms PET packaging and then sells this on to clients who use them for chemical products, drinks, oils, etc.
Even though meeting the EU requirements is huge news for the company, there are also other benefits too including the fact that they can reduce waste and therefore pollution. Additionally, employment has also increased.
