Daimler, German carmaker, has announced plans to invest heavily in an engine production plant set to be erected in Jawor, the south of Poland. Depending on state aid and some other unknown factors, we could soon see Daimler invest half a billion euros in the plant.
Daimler has said “The location decision and implementation of the project are dependant on various final commitments regarding the investment conditions, including the granting of state aid for the investment in Jawor. An investment of approximately €500 million is planned for the first stage of the new engine site.”
Head of Mercedes’ powertrain production, Frank Deiss, noted that this news is extremely welcome from Mercedes’ point of view as it will allow them to react to market changes faster than ever before; this one new plant will affect a number of their production sites for the better.
Mateusz Morawiecki, Deputy Prime Minister and Polish Economy Minster, said “The planned construction of a new engine plant in Poland by Daimler is evidence of the good state of our economy. We are open for international investment and will systematically implement our plan for sustainable development so we are attractive for further investors.”
A recent statement from the government released via email said that they will be providing the requested state aid for the investment. Launch of the plant isn't expected until 2019 but several hundred people will be employed in total. The main projects for the plant will be gasoline and diesel engines for passenger Mercedes cars.
