The home improvement sector in Hungary is predominantly influenced by brands with German origins, with Obi leading the pack as the market frontrunner. Following closely is Praktiker, a name that once belonged to a German corporate powerhouse before transitioning to an independent entity post-bankruptcy. Despite Praktiker's disappearance from the German landscape nearly a decade ago, it has solidified its position as the second-ranking home improvement retailer in Hungary. Initially a branch of the German Praktiker AG, it reinvented itself as a standalone business within Hungary after the German parent company's collapse. Presently, Praktiker distinguishes itself with a robust network of 20 stores, offering 141,000 square meters of retail space, significantly surpassing the German brand Bauhaus, which operates three expansive outlets in the country. This dominance of German-affiliated brands showcases their significant impact on Hungary's DIY market landscape.
