Over the years, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has helped numerous countries in countless projects and it now seems as though sustainable energy generation is the next target to cross off the list. Near the town of Staryi Sambir, which is located within the Lviv region, a new wind farm will be developed and the EBRD are making resources available to make this happen. As Ukraine continues to target energy security, this is an important step forward and the EBRD are once again helping to make it happen.
With an overall capacity of 20.7MW, the wind farm will be located in Kapatsky whilst boasting six turbines to improve the supply of energy in the whole region. Overall, a finance package contains over €23 million with over €8.5 million of that amount coming from the EBRD themselves. Elsewhere, the Climate Investment Funds’ Clean Technology Fund (CTF) will provide €4 million whilst around €5 million each will come from the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO) and the Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU).
With the main aim of providing finance to small, private businesses who are looking to invest in renewable energy products, this latest project comes from the Bank’s Ukraine Sustainable Energy Lending Facility (USELF). Both Sweden and Japan have a hand in implementing USELF as well as the Global Environment Facility who provide technical cooperation funds.
