Molex Launches New Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Katowice, Poland
Molex has recently inaugurated its third manufacturing campus in Poland, located in Katowice. This new facility initially spans 23,000 square meters and is positioned to significantly enhance the production of medical devices for Phillips-Medisize (a Molex subsidiary) and provide electric vehicle and electrification solutions. To date, Molex has invested $110 million in this site and has plans for future expansions, potentially extending the facility to 85,000 square meters. This is in addition to Molex's existing Polish sites in Rokitki and Sulęcin.
The Katowice facility is designed to support a variety of manufacturing capabilities, including medical device assembly, packaging, drug handling, injection molding, and the production of battery connectors and high-power busbars for diverse markets.
A key factor in selecting Katowice for this campus was the region's abundance of skilled manufacturing and engineering talent. Once at full capacity, this campus is expected to employ around 350 people, ranging from production operators to design engineers and quality specialists.
Notably, the Katowice campus is set to be the first facility for both Molex and Phillips-Medisize to achieve LEED Gold sustainability certification. The facility also awaits ISO 13485 certification, with further certifications anticipated post-construction.
Molex, part of Koch Industries, maintains a significant presence in Poland, with other Koch companies like Guardian Glass, SRG Global, Infor, and Koch Business Solutions employing over 2,000 people in the region. Additionally, Molex operates Phillips-Medisize facilities in Ireland, Denmark, the Czech Republic, and Finland.
