Voith Elevates PM 2 Production Line at Schumacher Packaging in Myszków with Advanced Technologies
Voith, in collaboration with Schumacher Packaging, has successfully initiated the operation of PM 2 in Myszków, Poland. The production line underwent a comprehensive modernization, utilizing only a few existing components, to meet the highest standards of sustainability and efficiency.
Björn Schumacher, CEO of Schumacher Packaging Group, expressed great satisfaction with Voith's overhaul of their PM 2. Voith's role as a leading full-line supplier streamlined the process, minimizing interfaces and significant risks associated with the rebuild.
The renovation has effectively doubled the production capacity for lightweight containerboard grades, focusing on sustainability, machine availability, and process efficiency.
Henryk Drechnowicz, Managing Director at Schumacher Packaging Myszków Paper mill, emphasized the rebuild's success in increasing production capacity from 500 to 1,000 tons per day, while also minimizing waste and reducing consumption of fiber, energy, and freshwater. Voith’s commitment to sustainability and their comprehensive product range were crucial factors in this partnership.
Previously, in 2018, Voith had upgraded the plant’s OCC stock preparation line. To accommodate the increased production and enhance efficiency, the line was further expanded with additional Voith BlueLine technologies, BTG sensor technology, and Meri's solutions for water, reject, and sludge handling.
Philip Schnellinger, Process Technology Manager at Voith Paper, highlighted the close collaboration and shared values between the project teams, leading to the project's success. Voith's role as a full-line supplier with an extensive portfolio was instrumental in meeting all the requirements.
The project also introduced state-of-the-art machine concepts, including the DuoFormer D, MasterJet Pro headbox, and DuoShake DG, ensuring optimal paper quality and strengths. The press section was updated with Voith's NipcoFlex technology, enhancing dry content and capacity while reducing specific steam consumption.
A significant addition to the rebuild was the fully automatic VariFlex NG winder, featuring the unique Gecko OneStep system for efficient web separation and gluing. The integrated drive control and the SmoothRun hydro-pneumatic damping system ensure stable winding quality at maximum speeds.
