Within the Baltic States, Nelja Energia is now the largest producer of wind power but they have taken a step sideways this year by introducing their first cogeneration plant and pellet factory in Latvia. Found in Broceni, the investment is thought to be worth €30 million and 35 jobs will be created for the locals.
Although the company has made great strides in other areas of the industry in recent years, the Chairman of the Management Board, Martin Kruus, admits this is a big jump into the heat/power production niche. However, the company completed many different test periods and found success which led to the opening.
When asked about the overall growth of the company, Kruus said “Nelja Energia is mainly known as the biggest producer of wind power in the Baltic states, but we can now announce our expansion, which is the first cogeneration plant powered by chipped wood and also our first pellet factory in Latvia. Cooperation with the partners and also the local team has been great and we are satisfied with the investment.”
