Global food-products corporation Danone has delineated plans to invest €50 million in the enhancement of its operational facility in Opole, Poland. This initiative involves the establishment of a novel medical nutrition production line.
The augmentation aligns with the escalating global demand for medical nutrition, driven by an aging population and a surge in chronic disease incidences. The expansion will sprawl over an additional 7,000 square meters, enhancing the production capabilities of what is already one of Danone’s largest European factories.
The Opole plant, spreading across nearly 13 hectares, is a pivotal production point for Danone, employing around 700 individuals and primarily producing baby nutrition products like Bebilon, Bebiko, and Bobovita.
Specialized nutrition, encompassing medical nutrition, accounts for 30% of Danone’s total revenue. This investment is a strategic step in Danone’s ongoing ‘Renew Danone’ strategy aimed at optimizing growth across its diverse product spectrum, with a specific focus on broadening its reach in the medical nutrition sector.
The upcoming production line is tailored to assist patients with impaired swallowing or liquid intake capabilities, relying on feeding tubes. This makes Opole Danone’s second European facility equipped to produce the Nutrison range of enteral nutrition.
Antoine de Saint-Affrique, the CEO of Danone, emphasized, “Our unwavering commitment to patient-centric solutions forms the core of our specialized nutrition strategy. The introduction of a new line in the Opole plant is poised to expedite our innovations in adult medical nutrition, leveraging our century-long experience in this domain. This strategic investment is designed to enhance the agility of our supply chain, enabling us to better serve local patients and uphold our mission to propagate health through food to the maximum number of individuals.”
This move is illustrative of Danone’s proactive approach to aligning its product portfolio with emerging health needs and market trends, reinforcing its presence in the adult nutrition sector and responding to evolving consumer and patient demands with agility and innovation.
