The German carmaker Audi has announced its plans to establish a HUF 6.2 billion research and development center at its base in GyĹr, northwest Hungary. Péter Szijjártó, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade stated on Monday this on Monday. This investment will be partly covered by a government grant which will make up about one-fifth of the investment.
The national news agency MTI also reported that at the R&D centre, the services of thirty development engineers would be engaged to focus on the development of both electric motors and internal combustion engines according to the statements made by Péter Szijjártó.
Szijjártó was speaking at an event marking AudiĘźs 25th year in Hungary. He noted that the company had invested EUR 8 bn in the country during that period and now employs 12,300 people directly.
In his statement, the Audi Hungarian managing Director Achim Heinfling stated that the local unit had already produced 33 million engines and 1.15 million vehicles. He acknowledged the “excellent” cooperation with the municipal council of GyĹr and the central government of Hungary, as well as the country’s conducive environment which promoted the business.
