From source to production with deep sence of tradition and knowledge The wood processing sector accounts for about 2.0 % of GDP, employing around 32.2 thousand workers or 3.5 percent of total employment. 2257 companies were active in the sector at the beginning of 2016, 99.8 percent of them were SMEs. In 2015 production of the wood processing sector (at current prices excl. taxes) amounted to 973 million EUR, which was a 10.4 % increase compared to 2014. Around 2/3 of production is exported to more than 90 countries around the world. The most important export markets for the wood processing sector in 2015 were Germany, followed by Norway, Latvia and the United Kingdom. European Union countries accounted for almost 70 percent of exports by the wood processing sector. Key products
