The Polish conurbation beat out a number of regional competitors to win the contract
German chemical and pharmaceutical company Bayer has decided that its financial and accounting center for Central and Eastern Europe will be located in the Tri-city region (of GdaĹsk, Gdynia and Sopot), in Poland's north, Puls Biznesu reported.
The Tri-city region beat out Estonian capital Tallinn, the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius, and the Polish cities of PoznaĹ, WrocĹaw and Katowice, to win the project. According to Puls Biznesu, Tri-city authorities offered Bayer zĹ.800,000 in support.
Recruitment for the center, which is expected to create over 200 jobs, is due to be completed by the end of the year. Bayer is reportedly in the process of choosing a site for the center.
“The company is considering four offices: Three in GdaĹsk and one in Gdynia. This won't be a regular financial and accounting center, because it will be in charge of advanced assignments, including financial reports,” Marcin FaleĹczyk, the deputy director of local investment agency Invest in Pomerania, told Puls Biznesu.
This is part of Bayer's strategy, through which it will also develop joint-service centers in China and the Philippines. In Leverkusen, Germany, Bayer will open a global office to deal with international accounting.
