During a meeting with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced that Japan will provide financial development assistance to Poland to support the neighboring war-torn country, Ukraine. Kishida made this announcement during his visit to Warsaw, which took place a day after his unannounced visit to Kyiv where he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Given Poland's special role in the Ukraine conflict, Japan will make an exception to the aid it typically provides to developing countries. Kishida also expressed Japan's interest in expanding economic cooperation with Poland in new fields such as high-temperature gas-cooled reactors, clean coal technology, and hydrogen. This move demonstrates Japan's appreciation for Poland's efforts in helping Ukraine and further strengthens the economic partnership between the two countries. Currently, more than 350 Japanese companies, mostly in the manufacturing industry, operate in Poland.
