The mechanical sector provides the economy with capital value and its output is responsible for a significant share of the growth in production in the remaining sectors. The quality of the goods produced by the mechanical sector, also has a bearing on other spheres of the economy and increases in quality and the application of new technology to the machines produced influences the rate of economic growth.
Why is it worthwhile investing in this sector in Poland? The modernisation and development of Poland’s economy has resulted in an increase in capital investments, particularly in machines and appliances. It’s estimated that the demand for machines will double over the next 8 years, creating many opportunities for investors.
In 2006 the sales of machines and appliances produced in our country was 41,472 million PLN and formed over 5% of the total industrial production sold. Production of machines and appliances in Poland is continually growing, together with the related employment. At the beginning of 2007 there were 182 thousand people employed in the mechanical sector. An indicator of the improvement in the machines and appliances sector, is the increase of investments in the sector over recent years. The share of the Polish mechanical sector in foreign trade is also very high.

Selected foreign investments in enterprises in the Polish mechanical sector:
Fagor (owner Wrozamet S.A.) owns a domestic appliances factory in WrocĹaw (washing machines, fridges and dishwashers). Merloni (Indesit, Ariston) own 2 factories producing washing machines and cookers, that employ app. 2,500 people in ĹodĹş and is also constructing a plant at Radomsk, where they plan to invest app. 80 million EUR and employ app. 1,500 people. CNH Global, own an agricultural machinery plant at PĹock. Danfoss, producers of apparatus for regulation control and measurement from Denmark, own 3 plants in Poland (in Grodzisk, ChwaszczyĹ and WrocĹaw). It has already invested 300 million PLN and employs 800 people. Bosch owns a factory at Mirków that produces braking systems. Voest Alpine, produce mining machinery at Tychy. Same Deutz-Fahr, produce agricultural trailers in Lublin. DeLaval own 2 factories in WrocĹawiu that produce dairy refrigerators. It has already invested 100 million PLN. Machinery Products and Development Holding B.V. own a factory in Radom that produces machines for the tobacco industry. SKF (Poznan), Timken (Sosnowiec) - is a global corporation that producers bearings and also manufactures in Poland.
