Toyota has achieved a major breakthrough in the Czech Republic with the decision to build its first European battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and a new battery assembly facility at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech Republic (TMMCZ) plant in Kolín. This landmark investment, valued at approximately €680 million, is supported by an additional €64 million from the Czech government to develop the battery-production section. The expansion will create around 245 new jobs and marks a pivotal moment for Czechia’s automotive industry.
Europe's First Toyota BEV Production Site
The Kolín factory will become Toyota’s first European plant dedicated to producing a full BEV alongside its battery assembly line. This elevates the Czech facility to a strategic role within Toyota’s global manufacturing network.
Significant Investment and Plant Expansion
To accommodate the new production activities, the Kolín site will expand from 152,000 m² to 173,000 m². The project includes new welding and paint shops, upgraded production infrastructure and advanced technologies tailored for electric-vehicle manufacturing.
A Boost for Czechia’s Automotive Modernisation
This investment represents a major step forward for the Czech automotive sector, one of the country’s most important economic pillars. The project brings modernised, higher-value production to the Czech Republic and supports the transition toward advanced, sustainable mobility technologies.
Strategic Importance for Toyota’s Carbon-Neutral Ambitions
The decision aligns with Toyota’s multi-pathway strategy and its goal to achieve carbon-neutral operations in Europe by 2040. By establishing BEV production in Czechia, Toyota expands its European manufacturing footprint and strengthens its ability to supply electric vehicles for the region’s rapidly evolving mobility market.
