Russia's Uralkali which producers about 20% of the total worldwide production of potash is increasing potash production to help meet the increase in global demand. Uralkali plans to invest US $ 5.4 billion in modernising its production process to improve efficiency by purchasing the most up to date mining technology doubling its production capacity by 2020. Currently Uralkali has a production capacity of 13 million tonnes per year with this investment it plans to increase this to 19 million tonnes per year.
Orders have already started to be placed, one example is that Uralkali have ordered from ABB 12 complete mine hoist systems, Nine double and three single drum hoists will help the company hoist potash in a most energy efficient way. ABB states '' this will increase its output while improving energy efficiency. The mine hoist systems will be installed in Solikams and Polovodova in Perm region, Russia.
