LEONI Group, a key manufacturer of wiring systems and components for the automotive industry, recently announced the opening of a new production center in Beiuş, Romania, thereby solidifying its existing 24-year-long presence in the region. This expansion is set to augment the company’s role as an international powerhouse in the automobile industry, particularly in producing wiring systems for electric and hybrid cars.
The new production facility aims to boost LEONI's operational capacity in Romania. This move marks a significant stride towards meeting growing demands in the commercial vehicle components sector, aligning with new or upcoming projects of LEONI Romania. Andrada Verdeş, the country manager for LEONI Romania, expressed her pride in Romania's recognition as a center of excellence in manufacturing wiring systems for eco-friendly vehicles.
The Beiuş factory is expected to substantially impact LEONI's activity on both local and international levels. At full capacity, the factory will provide 1,200 new jobs, thus becoming the largest local employer and a significant regional entity.
The factory, dedicated to producing classic car wiring systems, represents an investment of 17.5 million euros. This cost covers the renovation and equipment of a repurposed building, adhering to international standards. LEONI also invested heavily in personnel training to integrate the regional labor force better into the current job market.
The state-of-the-art Beiuş production unit features the latest equipment and systems designed to meet the quality expected by customers. The facility employs an advanced, integrated, computerized system for monitoring production processes, making it unique in Romania's cable production scene.
Addressing future plans, Verdeş highlighted the global changes in the automotive industry, from the shift towards electric vehicles to developing sophisticated artificial intelligence systems. Verdeş expressed confidence in LEONI's preparedness for these trends, backed by the Innovation Industrialization Center recently launched in Germany.
In terms of sustainability, LEONI uses 100% green energy in its factories. The Beiuş facility also utilizes geothermal water for its energy needs. Verdeş underscored the importance of sustainability in LEONI's operations, embodied in the ReWire strategic sustainability program. This program focuses on climate, material efficiency, and resource conservation, while promoting local community engagement.
