The Romanian arm of Austrian transportation and logistics services provider Gebrüder Weiss said on Thursday that it has completed the expansion of its logistics hub in the city of Sibiu by 2,250 sq m, following a 3.4 million euro ($3.7 million) investment in the Central and Eastern European country.
The investment also targeted the purchase of necessary equipment and the newly expanded logistics centre now measures 6500 sq m, Gebrüder Weiss said in a press release.
The hub in Sibiu was established in 2010, following a 1.2 million euro investment, with 2,000 sq m allocated to cross-docking operations. In 2017, the storage space was expanded by 2,500 sq m, after a 3.2 million euro investment. Due to its location in central Romania, the logistics centre is a strategic hub both for domestic distribution and the transportation of goods to Western Europe. In 2021 alone, the Sibiu centre managed approximately 145,000 deliveries, weighing up to a total of 135,000 tonnes of goods.
Gebrüder Weiss is present in Romania since 1994 and has a national logistics hub infrastructure spanning eight cities. In 2021, Gebrüder Weiss Romania booked a net profit of 19.1 million lei ($4.2 million/3.9 million euro) on a turnover of 473.1 million lei, latest data from the finance ministry shows.
