Pipes are as old as civilization itself. Their simple form was given to us by nature. The first pipes were made from bamboo. The best pipes we now have are just right for today`s requirements. They neatly meet our daily needs but their high utility value, adding quality to our society, is something we do not normally think about much. Example: What is more natural than turnin on the tap? In Switzerland, for example, the average daily consumption of water per head is 145 litres. The compounded total is enormous and steadily rising, imposing on the manufacturers of pipe systems new responsibilities in respect of quality.
Safe drainage and treatment of domestic waste water is just as important to households as hygienic and loss-free distribution of drinking water. Our maxim: "Water is worth the effort" has been synonymous with the quality of our materials and processing quality for many decades thanks to continuous testing of raw materials and products in all production stages from powder or granulate to the finished pipe. This is our traditional approach which we feel obliged to uphold. This is sustained quality, now and for the future.
ALPHACAN Omniplast GmbH was established under the name of Omniplast GmbH & Co KG on 21st June 1955 by two well known cast iron pipe manufacturers. The partners, Buderus’sche Eisenwerke of Wetzlar/Lahn and Halbergerhütte of Brebach/Saar intended to develop the production pf plastic pipes right from base, taking the complex stratification of the pipe market into account.
Operations started with the extrusion of pressure and drain pipes and the production of complementary fittings needed for complete pipe systems. The motto was "Water is worth the effort." The high quality of pipes and fittings, reliability of workmanship and deliveries, combined with the extraordinary properties of the plastics used, earned ALPHACAN Omniplast a leading position in the plastic pipe trade in Germany and a high reputation as a recognized exporter across the world.
From the very beginning, the company was on the right track with a revolutionary development of plastic pipe systems, and was intensively engaged in standardization and the building of a foolproof quality assurance system.

Where actual and stipulated quality coincide
There was something magic about the moment the TÜV in Hessen granted us the famous certificate on our 40th anniversary, except that it did no more than document what had been normal accepted procedure before.
ALPHACAN Omniplast’s quality concept is based on avoidance of faults which means that raw materials, production processes and end products pass through a continous cycle of inspections. ALPHACAN Omniplast is also open to outside monitoring by approved national and international inspection authorities.
The general objective is to achive uniform quality on a continous basis. Such quality is largely dependent on the attitude of the workforce to the company. Our employees are well motivated and work as a team. This team spirit, rediscovered generally in the Nineties, has in fact existed at ALPHACAN Omniplast since the very beginning and stands for good thinking and feeling of joint responsibility, acting with care and responsibility without getting into a rut.
It is also worth noting that 30 years ago our company was a co-founder of the Gütegemeinschaft Kunststoffrohre e.V. (GKR), Bonn. This Quality Association, grouping all major manufacturers of plastic pipes in Germany, is dedicated to establishing joint principles for assurance and quality monitoring.
Working in close co-operation with trade associations and the authorities, we created our own strict guidelines as the basis of our quality assurance system which takes into account all relevant specifications. Only manufacturers who totally comply with such specifications are authorized to mark their products with the quality mark - as ALPHACAN Omniplast can. All authorized manufacturers are listed in the "Index of Quality Mark Bearers" issued by the Plastic Pipe Quality Association.
