We do things our way. We follow our convictions. And we are proud to be different. However, we are not just different for the sake of being different, but because we wish to be an attractive alternative – both as a workplace and as a supplier.
Our way of being different is based on four keystones which together – and on their own – draw the profile of a different company. The keystones point both outward and inward and when interlocking form a rock solid foundation.
UNIMERCO is not an ordinary company. Its business philosophy is inspired by the so-called fishing vessel model.
Kenneth Iversen, CEO of UNIMERCO, was inspired by the system used by local fishermen in his home town Thyboroen, Denmark. They used a well-functioning system for cooperation and profit sharing which created a sense of community, responsibility and, at the same time, provided a strong incentive for making an extra effort. The result was the idea to organise a land-based company in the same way.
Common interests
One of the most important ingredients is the feeling of togetherness and community where we are all team players and where management and employees share a common interest in the growth and earnings of the company. The structure, management and organisation is based on cooperation, confidence in each other and common interests. UNIMERCO's interior arrangement, organisation, ownership structure, salary system, etc. are based on this view as we are all responsible for our work, colleagues, quality, customer service etc.
An award-winning success story
Over the years, the philosopy has shaped UNIMERCO into a value-based company. Working efforts and acknowledgement go hand in hand, and ethics and responsibility towards the surrounding world are highly prioritised key words. Internally, the result is an expanding and foresighted company with a flat organisation, good working places and a wide range of staff benefits combined with a unique owner and reward structure.
The success is reflected in our financial results as well as in the good working environment. This was underlined in 2002, when UNIMERCO A/S was elected best workplace in Denmark 2002, and in the following years when the company was placed in the category 'best 10 EU workplaces'
