Belgian bioplastics pioneer Futerro has signed a strategic distribution agreement with K.D. Feddersen, a leading plastics distributor based in Hamburg. Under this partnership, K.D. Feddersen will distribute Futerro’s polylactic acid (PLA) products, branded as Renew, in key European markets, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the UK, and several Central Eastern European (CEE) countries such as Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Serbia, and Bulgaria.
Futerro’s chief commercial officer, Dr. Benoît Lecouvet, emphasized that the partnership is a significant step in accelerating the adoption of environmentally friendly alternatives to fossil-based plastics in Europe. Futerro’s PLA, a leading bioplastic, is produced at its facility in China with an annual capacity of 100,000 tonnes, and the company has plans to further expand with a 75,000-tonne biorefinery in Normandy, France, by 2027.
Futerro’s innovative approach covers the entire PLA supply chain, from lactic acid fermentation to polymerization and recycling through its patented Loopla technology. With PLA already accounting for 27% of global bioplastic production, this partnership positions Futerro to take advantage of projected growth, with European Bioplastics estimating PLA will make up 43.6% of production capacity by 2028.
