Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper, has commenced operations of a new extrusion line at its Štětí plant in the Czech Republic. This development is part of a comprehensive investment that includes a state-of-the-art production building equipped with advanced coating and slitting machinery.
The new extrusion line significantly boosts Mondi's capacity to produce FunctionalBarrier Paper and other high-quality coated papers. These products cater to a wide array of applications, ranging from food and non-food contact packaging to industrial uses such as case linings for solid boards and barrier liners for corrugated case materials.
In the first half of 2024, Mondi reported sales of €3.73 billion, a 3.6% decrease compared to the same period in 2023. The company's underlying EBITDA from continuing operations stood at €565 million, reflecting a 17% decline year-over-year.
A trading update for the three months ending 30 September 2024 indicated that underlying EBITDA for the third quarter was €223 million, down from €351 million in the second quarter. This decline was attributed to planned maintenance shutdowns, a forestry fair value loss, softer seasonal demand, and increased input costs.
Despite these financial challenges, the launch of the new extrusion line underscores Mondi's commitment to meeting the growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions and enhancing its production capabilities.
