The EBRD has announced that it will back the modernization of the region’s power system with a €150 million loan for the construction of a state-of-the-art gas turbine facility in following the closure of the Ignalina nuclear power plant in.
The proceeds of the loan will be used to upgrade power plants run by Latvian state-owned power generation and distribution company Latvenergo, the ERBD said in a press release. Latvenergo produces around 95 percent of the total power consumed in via its two combined heat and power facilities; Riga CHP-1 and Riga CHP-2 and hydroelectric power plants.
