Vestas is on a mission to dominate the offshore wind sector and bolster Europe's development of offshore wind farms. We're thrilled to share our plans for a new blade manufacturing facility in Szczecin, Poland. This plant is set to manufacture blades for our premier offshore wind turbine, the V236-15.0 MW, with operations expected to commence in 2026. This move will generate over 1,000 direct job opportunities. Coupled with our previous announcement to set up an offshore nacelle assembly plant in Szczecin, Vestas is poised to create more than 1,700 direct jobs in the region by 2026.
Tommy Rahbek Nielsen, COO of Vestas, highlighted our commitment to spearheading a sustainable supply chain in Europe capable of supporting the anticipated surge in demand for offshore wind power. Our investment in two new factories in Poland emphasizes the potential for Europe to drive wind industry investments and green job creation with solid offshore wind project policies.
Nils de Baar, President of Vestas Northern & Central Europe, noted Poland's dynamic transformation in energy and its promising wind energy market. With favorable wind conditions and a highly skilled workforce, Poland is set to become a key offshore hub for not only the Baltic Region but also Europe at large. "Having led the market in Poland for over two decades, it's an honor to announce our forthcoming investments in Szczecin," said de Baar.
The planned offshore blade factory will be situated in northern Szczecin, near the Ostrów Brdowski Island, where the nacelle assembly factory is also expected to be located. The assembly facility is slated to begin operations in 2025, adding 700 direct jobs to the local economy.
These strategic expansions in Szczecin are crucial for meeting the demand in Europe and potentially worldwide, significantly contributing to the growth of Poland and the European offshore wind sector. With these new facilities, Vestas anticipates employing over 2,500 individuals in Poland, reinforcing our presence and commitment to the market.
Vestas' strategy for expanding its manufacturing footprint is to focus on markets with long-term stability and a sustainable volume of orders, with other potential locations also under consideration for new capacity.
