Prysmian Group, a leading cable manufacturer in Romania and Europe, has launched a new €23 million production line at its Slatina energy plant. This significant investment will bolster the plant's capacity by an additional 12,000 tons of electrical cable per year, designed primarily for electricity distribution to the population.
The expansion, set to unfold over three years, includes the addition of six new production lines at the Slatina facility. Since 2005, Prysmian has injected a total of €75 million into its Slatina operations. The new lines will not only enhance production by 20% but also create additional job opportunities, integrating advanced technology to elevate both the output and efficiency of the plant.
Daniela Burca, COO of Prysmian Romania, expressed enthusiasm about the investment, highlighting the Slatina plant's strategic advantage in securing raw materials locally. "Slatina hosts the largest telecom factory in Europe, and we are poised to establish one of the most modern electrical cable factories here," she stated. The initiative also aligns with environmental goals, introducing innovative technology that cuts CO2 emissions by one ton per kilometer of cable produced.
As part of its commitment to sustainability, Prysmian is actively involved in global projects that connect renewable energy sources like solar and wind farms to transmission and distribution grids. "This investment reaffirms Prysmian Group's dedication to supporting the transition to green energy in Romania and strengthening the region's role as an energy hub," said Constantin Nistor, CCO of Prysmian Romania.
The Slatina plant, which annually produces over 35,000 tons of various electrical conductors used in everything from construction to high-voltage transmission networks, serves major electricity suppliers across Europe and the United States, underlining its critical role in the global energy supply chain.
