Lidl has recently launched DIY stores in Hungary and Poland, aiming to boost the visibility of its private label Parkside. The German discounter opened its first two stores in Biatorbágy, near Budapest, Hungary, and in Bytom, Southern Poland. These stores are dedicated to showcasing the full range of Parkside products, including grinders, hammers, screwdrivers, and various other tools and accessories.
The store in Bytom spans 100 square meters and presents Lidl’s complete DIY product lineup. Local reports from Hungary describe the opening of the Biatorbágy store as a significant success, with hundreds of visitors and long queues. Lidl has indicated that these stores are part of a test phase, and the Parkside products will continue to be available both in physical stores and online.
The expansion into dedicated DIY stores reflects Lidl's ongoing strategy to broaden its non-food offerings. The Parkside brand holds strategic importance for Lidl, highlighted by their recent marketing campaign featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger as the face of the brand. This move follows other similar initiatives by Lidl, including the launch of a temporary store in Antwerp earlier this year to promote their baby product range under the Lupilu brand.
This strategy allows Lidl to present its full non-food assortment in an environment where customers can interact with the products directly, addressing the limitations of space in their regular supermarket setups.
