Continental has secured €420 million through Romania's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) to advance semiconductor development within the country. This funding is part of the Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) in microelectronics and communication technologies, aiming to bolster Romania's position in the semiconductor industry.
In collaboration with Bosch and NXP, Continental will spearhead three major projects focused on chip development. The initiative also involves 24 academic institutions and small to medium-sized enterprises, fostering a comprehensive ecosystem for innovation.
The ASSET IxC project, proposed by Continental in 2021 and approved by the European Commission, aims to enhance energy-efficient automotive systems through smart transducers. The project will leverage advanced technologies such as Chiplet integrations, RISC-V architecture, cybersecurity measures, micro-LED and OLED displays, and augmented reality head-up displays. Industrial implementation is planned for Continental's facilities in Timișoara and Iași.
This strategic investment underscores Continental's commitment to advancing semiconductor technology and strengthening Romania's role in the global microelectronics sector.
