The first Polish-Swedish Economic Forum has taken place in Stockholm, officially opening a new phase of cooperation between the two countries. The event follows the strategic partnership agreement signed in November 2024 by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. The agreement identifies key priority areas: innovation, clean energy, advanced technologies, digitalization, defense and joint support for Ukraine.
The inaugural forum gathered senior government officials, business leaders and experts from Poland, Sweden and Ukraine. Its central goal was to deepen bilateral cooperation, accelerate investment and coordinate efforts to support Ukraine’s reconstruction.
High-Level Government Participation
The forum was opened by top representatives from both governments. Poland was represented by Andrzej Domański, Minister of Finance and Economy, and Wojciech Wrochna, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Energy. Sweden was represented by Benjamin Dousa, Minister of Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, and Maja Lundbäck, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Energy, Entrepreneurship and Industry.
Minister Domański emphasised that Poland’s growing partnership with Sweden is the result of active, strategic economic diplomacy.
“Poland has much to offer: creativity, experience, innovative solutions and exceptional specialists. These factors make Poland one of the most attractive investment destinations in Europe.”
Strong Business Presence From Both Countries
Dozens of leading Polish and Swedish companies took part, including Asseco Poland’s CEO Adam Góral and SEB’s Marcus Wallenberg. The strong presence of Polish technology firms—active in creating global IT solutions—was widely praised, underscoring Poland’s growing position as a European tech hub.
Polish innovation and entrepreneurial capability were recurring themes throughout the discussions. Speakers highlighted Poland’s combination of bold business thinking and practical digital-transformation experience.
PAIH President Andrzej Dycha summed it up:
“Innovation has no borders, only determination. Poland is ready not only to cooperate, but to lead many of the processes that will shape Europe’s future.”
Focus on Supporting Ukraine’s Reconstruction
A dedicated debate examined the economic and strategic support needed for rebuilding Ukraine. Participants included Ukrainian Ambassador to Sweden Svitlana Zalishchuk and representatives of Polish government institutions.
Paweł Kowal, Chairman of the Council for Cooperation with Ukraine, stressed the long-term significance of this collaboration:
“Helping Ukraine means rebuilding not just infrastructure and companies, but embedding Western business standards and anti-corruption practices.”
Expert Sessions and Next Steps
The forum also featured closed-door sessions on energy transition, sustainable infrastructure, digitalization and defense cooperation. These discussions set the stage for concrete bilateral initiatives in the coming year.
With strong political backing and increasing business engagement, the Polish-Swedish Economic Forum signals a new chapter in European regional cooperation. The next summit will take place in Poland next year.
