Boeing has announced a significant new investment in Poland under the name Boeing Engineering Poland, aiming to hire several hundred additional specialists for civil and defense projects. This expansion will create new jobs in Gdańsk, Rzeszów, and Poznań. The initiative is part of Boeing's broader strategy to enhance its capabilities in structural, manufacturing, software, and systems engineering. The planned engineering complex will focus on advanced technologies and innovative solutions, bolstering Boeing’s global operations in both civilian and military sectors.
Boeing's Strategic Fit in Poland
Boeing’s investment aligns perfectly with Poland's strategy to attract technologically advanced foreign direct investments (FDI).
A Brief History of Boeing in Poland
Boeing's journey in Poland began in the early 1990s. The company first partnered with the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation in Warsaw in 1992, focusing on producing doors for the Boeing 757 aircraft. This collaboration played a crucial role in Poland’s economic transformation.
Boeing's presence in Poland was initially supported by LOT Polish Airlines’ orders for the 767-200 and 767-300 models in 1989, making LOT the first carrier in Central and Eastern Europe to operate Boeing aircraft.
Boeing's Current Operations in Poland
Today, Boeing operates in several Polish cities, including Warsaw, Gdańsk, Rzeszów, and Mielec, employing over 1,100 people.
- Gdańsk: Specializes in software development and engineering of communication and avionics systems. This division produces navigational charts used by nearly half of all Boeing users worldwide and develops software for optimal load distribution in aircraft.
- Rzeszów: Focuses on mechanical and electrical engineering and provides ongoing customer support. The Boeing distribution center in Rzeszów is the second largest in Europe.
- Warsaw: Primarily engaged in production engineering and materials testing. Engineers here work closely with the Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation on various research and development projects.
- Mielec: Operates as PZL Mielec, the exclusive supplier of doors for the 757 passenger plane and produces other smaller components for Boeing.
Boeing's continued investment in Poland highlights the country's growing importance as a hub for technologically advanced engineering and manufacturing. This expansion not only strengthens Boeing’s global operations but also underscores Poland's strategic role in the aerospace sector.
