Panattoni is developing a fully automated, built-to-suit (BTS) distribution center for Auchan Polska in Wilcza Góra, near Warsaw. This facility aims to enhance Auchan's e-commerce operations by leveraging advanced automation technologies.
In April, Auchan Polska launched a new online platform focused on providing a more personalized and convenient shopping experience. This initiative is part of a collaboration with UK-based Ocado, a leader in logistics automation and robotics for the e-grocery sector. The forthcoming distribution center will utilize Ocado's artificial intelligence and machine learning systems to manage up to 40,000 products, enabling flexible delivery options, including same-day service.
"Our high-tech distribution center is set to revolutionize the Polish market, particularly in optimizing order fulfillment and last-mile logistics," stated Piotr Dopierała, Supply Chain & Logistics Director at Auchan Retail Polska.
Construction commenced in the third quarter of this year, with completion targeted for June 2025. Early access is scheduled for March, and full operations are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025 following the integration of Ocado's technology. This facility is designed to handle increased order volumes efficiently, even during peak periods, thereby enhancing customer satisfaction.
The center is pursuing a BREEAM Excellent environmental certification, aiming to reduce operating costs and environmental impact. Sustainability features include a reinforced roof for future solar panel installation, energy-efficient lighting with motion and dusk sensors, optimized delivery routes to minimize CO₂ emissions, and automated packing systems to decrease packaging material usage.
